The Ngong road forest sanctuary, one of the few forests in the world that exists within a city gets a Kshs. 2 Million grant from the Tourism Trust Fund, the funding arm of the Ministry of Tourism.
“The proximity of the Ngong Forest to the city, and indeed, to the largest informal settlement in Nairobi, makes the forest extremely vulnerable to deforestation, human encroachment and indeed pollution. Aware of this, the Trustees of the forest sanctuary have accepted to manage, on behalf of the government, this public land using a new dynamic model of community environmental management of resources. This model resonates with the United Nation’s blue print for the environment, namely, Agenda 21. ,” said Mrs Kambuni, TTF Chairperson, as she presented the Kshs.2 million cheque to the sanctuary.
