TTF Funds Accommodation Facilities for Africa Canoe and Kayak Championships at Masinga Dam

The Tourism Trust Fund, (TTF) today officially handed over an accommodation site at Masinga Dam for the development of water sports tourism in Kenya.



Funding Policy

TTF works with Tourism projects that display the following:

  • Projects with high level diversification away from traditional beach and safari products
  • Project sustainability beyond TTF’s financing programme
  • Projects that demonstrate tangible impact towards poverty alleviation
  • Projects that are environmental friendly!
  • Projects with co-financing abilities
Partnership Approach

Business funded must demonstrate a link with a local community, with clear benefits steams accruing in terms of cash or spin-off enterprises

What the Fund will not Finance
  • The fund will not finance international/large private investors or single owners of ranches, but will finance business partnerships with local communities through marketing, training and provision of incentive grants
  • The fund will not finance social development projects, such as schools, construct fences, dig water points or cattle dips
  • The fund will not finance conservation plans which are not linked with a revenue generation aspect, to ensure sustainability
  • The fund will not finance large-scale operations requiring an initial capital investment exceeding Ksh50,000,000
  • The fund will not finance refurbishment of large-scale hotels or lodges which do not demonstrate diversification of it’s product/market base
What the Fund will Finance
  • The fund will work directly with small and medium sized enterprises, which meet the criteria outlined
  • The fund will work/seek to co-finance with intermediary bodies, such as NGO’s wildlife forums or membership bodies who represents the SMEs/CBOs in enterprises development
  • The fund will finance equitable and fair partnership between private investors and local communities
  • The fund will seek to provide on going support to financed businesses in terms of Training, Market Support and Innovative Product Design

Grant Levels
  • The amount awarded to each project will depend on the scale of the project, feasibility of the business plan and the applicant’s implementation capacity
  • Partnership between investors and community based organizations will be encouraged to apply for grant
  • The fund will cater for a proportion of the total project cost’ while the businesses are expected to raise the remaining amount, as cash contribution
  • Cost related to professional or technical expertise such as architecture, quantity surveyors, environmental impact assessments and legal fees, can be worked into the project
