The Tourism Trust Fund, (TTF) today officially handed over an accommodation site at Masinga Dam for the development of water sports tourism in Kenya.
Tourism in Kenya depends on a wide range of resources- diverse species of wildlife and natural habitats, historical sites and cultural assets, as well as basic resources such as water, transport and communications.
TTF believes that sustainability is the key to any tourism project, and we seek to ensure that these vital resources are preserved for the long-term benefit of both the project and its visitors. Sustainable tourism growth at a local and destination level is vital for the future.
Kenya presents unique challenges in this respect- many of the projects we support are located in remote areas with little or no local infrastructure, where access to water, power or usable roads can be limited.
Wildlife is a major tourist attraction in Kenya, but preservation of such a diverse range of species, including large land mammals such as elephants and rhinos, and dangerous predators such as lions and leopards- is particularly challenging in populated areas.
The ways in which communities face these challenges and the solutions they find form the basis of many of the projects TTF support.
